I actually went about posting this elsewhere but I got sidetracked here, where I am, and couldn't find where I was!
So I'll do it here.
We were going to go detecting and took our Yabbie nets, your crawfish. But ended up going yabbying.
We used dog biscuits as bait. We used to use meat but since covid meat has gone crazy in price.
Where we live, there are not a lot of rivers or dams, but our yabbies live in small bush dams that were dug by the gold miners to wash gold. They are very opportunistic, will live anywhere there is water. This little dam we have been to over the years and always get a great feed. Not many know about it. Was a great day. Some places they are different in taste, here they are always sweet. We saw signs that others had been there but we dont think they Yabbied, maybe just detecting. Was a great day.

Over 2000 ounces..

The nets we used. Now days its all pyramid nets, the old hoop drop nets are hard to find or buy. But for some reason the old hoops outfish the pyramids by a mile.
We used just 3 nets in the 3 hours we were there. 2 pyramid, 1 hoop.
We caught 70% in the 1 old hoop net not pictured. Guess what im taking next time!?
Still got a great feed and was a great day. Beautiful clean yabs!

Great catch I’ve never seen crawdads that big over here.
There’s probably still some gold nuggets close by

On the small rise behind the car the old timers surfaced a little. Doesn't look like they found anything as its not much, few small spots checked by them. I tried there yrs ago and never got a speck.

This is so exciting ..I recall my Dad using crawdads for fish bait.
I think it would be great to join in on a setting then perhaps search for some gold afterwards

Pretty cool. In Oklahoma we had crawdads that big. We'd go down to the creek and catch them for fish bait and then catch some and cook them over the fire.
I Use the harvest crawdads at antero reservoir at where a road goes over the river feeding the reservoir.
