todays finds...need help please

today's finds...need help please

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas to everyone. I found these items today all in one area in Stafford VA. Does anyone know what the long metal item is? What are the chances of finding leather from the civil war era? I found a couple of what I believe are saddles and a whole lot of other horse related stuff near a stream on a friends land. The leather breaks apart upon touching it pretty much. Any ideas where I can find more info out on this stuff There is more I have to dig up as I ran out of time today. Any help is appreciated. You Sir have hit a jack pot of horse tack! Leather from the civil war can still exist, I have a knot of harness leather that was found with.... hmmmm.... what was it found with? Either way, it was found with something that was civilwar era. LOL Congrats on the finds!

Oh, the long thing is one side of the tree from a pulling yoke for a horse. The ball goes to the top and points outward.

It was found with leather all over the place even though it is really brittle, breaks as soon as you touch it. I have lost count of how many buckles were found today. I haven't even begun to dig. This stuff so far is within 3 inches of the surface bu the detector is going crazy deeper. I believe I may have found either hut or a trash pit. I consider this an early Christmas present from the past Needless to say, I will be at the site all next week or at least as long as I can get out of the house. You sure found a lot of horse related stuff! Ya never know, you might have found a trash pit outside of an old glue factory.
