That's a nice "Celt" you found there, with a fine
"bit" on it (the blade edge). A Celt is an ungrooved stone axe.
Neat find!

Awesome info, thank you! I thought it was a ballast stone initially, till i pulled it all the way out of the sand and saw the edge on it.

A horse tooth? Dang, wonder if it came off of one of the Spanish ships! As I understand it there were no horses native to Florida, so there are very limited sources where it could have come from!

Find them on Florida West coast...in the scoop or on the beach. More commonly found from dredged/re-nourished beaches P1000187.JPG

Those look almost the same as the buffalo teeth I find. Find a complete skull every now and then. Found in OKLAHOMA on the salt fork river

Oh man, I love that stone knife. So very, very, very cool. I would love to know the who and the how behind whoever made that, however long ago. I would love the opportunity to find something like that.

Beautiful celt and somewhat rare for florida, the the worst part about it is its illegal to have unless of coarse you found it in the 60's,....and I'm sure you did right, right......Its illegal to collect artifacts in florida waters period....careful what you post and be more careful about who is aware of you finding these and posting on a public forums, it can bite you in the adz! FYI!

That is definitely a nice Celt. Probably traded from the Ga. area by the coastal Indians. That area was Aias and Tequesta Indian area. Previous post was right on, Fl. prohibits collecting anything over 50 yrs. old on state land or in state water including beach finds. Good luck.

Very nice celt! and good sized fossil horse tooth.
You're practically in my backyard are you working on a lease site?
If you are you have every right to salvage what you come up with in it.
There has been several nice celts found at the 1733 wreck site close to the Jupiter Inlet... Because that area was inhabited for thousands of years before the Spanish ship broke apart there.
All sorts of good stuff coming up this season from Sebastian to Fort Pierce.

The isolated finds program was discontinued in 2005... Not the 1960s.

Also your celt appears to be what was an archaic style in this area well before the Ais tribe.
.... Are you working with Troy?...
I know several holes there exposed an old root system and quite a bit of Flint ... I was also told about one large complete blade that went flipping away never to be seen again

I never said it was disolved in the 60's, I simply put a date out there prior to anything being discontinued. Just a date, nothing more, nothing less.:icon_scratch:
