I actually live about 10 minutes from here. I scouted it out a few weeks ago. I did read somewhere that a group from Syracuse spent the day on the island with metal detectors and what not and came up with some cook pots, arrow heads, etc but no buried treasure. I would love to get out there before the winter to try my luck.

I just got back from fishing the Salmon River. I thought about bringing my mxt but there was no time to detect given our rigorous 3 day itinerary in drift boats with guides. Would have loved to cover a little island. 3 0r 4 acres is do able in a day if one is methodical and determined.

The Island is Priovately owned now, and the owner does NOT take kindly to trespassers...He does give permission to certain people or groups to hunt the Island...I live in SorryExcuse (Syracuse), and I have not heard of anyone hunting it in recent years.

A lot of historical markers are placed in the wrong spots,so do your homework and research well.Sometimes theyre just thrown up anyplace close by without any accuracy whatsoever.
