All Treasure Hunting
My best friend and I have always liked to explore abandoned houses, barns, homesites, fields etc. We have been doing this for about 25 years and taking our fill of pictures, rusty whatnots, decaying wood whatnots, bottles or other related goodies. One time about 22 years ago, we found this sinking-into-the-ground little house in the middle of nowhere, deep in the woods and decided to explore its grounds. We took in the front yard, explored the side yard-getting all excited over our finds and piling them up by my truck to load in when we were all through. As we were about to go around back, a pickup truck stops in front of the house near where my truck was parked. We couldn’t really see inside the truck, so we both looked at each other like, “oh sh*t-it’s Jason” and started to walk towards the front of the house both with bottles in hand to try and do some damage if we had to….

A woman gets out of the truck and says, “What are you guys doing here?” Relieved that it is a chick, we say, “Just exploring.” She then says, “Well, this is my grandmother’s house and I’d like you to leave.” WHAT?! “Sure thing.” We get in my truck (of course without our goodies) and don’t look back….

To this day we still talk about it-did it used to be her grandmother’s house, before she died maybe? Or was it still her grandmother’s house and the poor woman was looking out her window at us the whole time, possibly scared to death wondering who these f’ing women were who stealing things out of her yard?!

So the next time you see what you perceive is an abandoned house and decide to hunt there, remember this story! : )

Just because there are no “NO TRESPASSING” signs, doesn’t mean it’s ok to hunt there!

Just because there is no mailbox doesn’t mean it’s deserted!

Just because it looks like no one should or could live there doesn’t mean that someone doesn’t!

Ok, maybe it’s not that funny-you had to be there : )

really?pretty good.

Really, really : )

Hahahahaha!!!! Glad you told me about this! That is hilarious!

We both felt horrible about it, but now it's funny : )

My dad owns some property in a nearby town that, at one time, had his mother's house, his grandmother's house, and his great-grandmother's house on it. All three were abandoned. I was down there one day doing the lawn maintenance and took a break to get some water to drink. I sat down on the porch of my great-grandmother's house and took a sip of water from my bottle and lo and behold some lady steps out of the house and says that although she appreciates me mowing for her, she would like it if I didn't sit on HER steps to take my break! She startled the heck out of me and I about messed my pants! I remembered my dad telling me that he was thinking of renting out one of the places, so I thought she was a renter. I apologized for sitting on HER porch and finished mowing. When I told dad about it that night he told me he hadn't rented the place out yet and nobody should be living there. We drove down after dinner that night to see who was there and the house was empty. I never saw the lady again, but I sure as heck avoided the porch on the house whenever I went down and mowed!

Haint? (an Arkansas term)

Chadeaux: Funny you should put that. My family moved here from Ashdown, Arkansas in the late 1800's. :)
