I don't know anyone that uses ear plugs with headphones. Why would you want to do this?

Yea stupid question but better to ask than not :-) figured water in ears and such.

There are no stupid questions except the ones not asked. The only reason I can see for ear plugs in the water is if you have a problem with ear infections. If you do add the ear plugs though you will have a harder time hearing light signals from the detector and you might miss some good targets.
