A friend of mine from Kentucky found this stone near his barn sticking out of the mud, he gave it to me cause he knows I love digging history from the dirt. It seems to be made of sandstone and is about 2 in x 3in wide . It is smooth with grooves which are not same width. Has half circle which I don’t know if it is half of the store or part. Probably weighs a pound. Any help with identifying would be great! Thanks!

Some kind of very hard clay or carved mineral? Nah, I go with fired clay with a type of fired gloss applied. Maybe even part of a kiln(early stone oven)? Or something that you put a hot pot(stone trivet?) on to cool?

To me it looks like the last bit of a salt lick block.
