any ideas on what this rock is? the other pic is a small piece i broke off. breaks like obsidian or flint, but the color and holes threw me. thanks

Well, I don't know, but it does kind of remind me of a fossilized tooth, too. Need more information.

The smaller piece has some appearance of jasper. Think it’s closer to agate as ToddsPoint said. Neat whatever it is. Be Cool if it was a tooth😳
