looksto me like the front 1/2 piece of the "catch" half part of a "snap" closer type device --used on clothing to hold it together

tent flap catch ? along those lines but heavier duty size item
the hole in the center had a peg that come thru the back in was smashed flat --the cloth was trapped between the two parts --the other side had a male end that snapped into the "female end " that you got --your piece is the front side of the female half,
