I ran into a nice older couple in town today; I've had my eye on their yard for a while and asked to search it. They were happy to allow me, and the gentleman recalled finding a large cent while planting a shrub. This, of course, was music to my ears, and I anticipated a great afternoon. The house is along a busy sidewalk, within sight of my own in an old town. Got out in the nice sunshine and began the hunt, eventually finding 5 wheats, the oldest a 37. No silver, no Indians, making this yard the exception around here. Still, like they say, a bad day detecting is better than a good day at work. Oh yeah, I don't work; I'm a stay at home dad, so I guess they're both the same.

I agree with hollowpointred. Go over the yard again from a different direction, and let us know what ya find!

Stay at home dad??? And you don't call that work??? I did it for 9 months and could not wait to get back to work. The honey do list was never ending as was the laundry!!

Great finds none the less!!

I do call it work; I was being cynical, or sarcastic, or ironic - I'm not sure which!

I still get a kick out of finding wheats.

Yep, try their yard again.

Go low and slow.

Any of the coins deep? Any chance there is stuff deeper? Conditions should be good for getting deep.

I've had your scenario play out many times before. Good luck on your next hunts and yes try one more time. :)

The coins weren't too deep, probably 2-3 inches on the wheats. It seemed to me that the lawn may have been redone at some point, with topsoil added; still, with all the moisture in the ground, I shouldn't miss silver. I wasn't getting that many real deep signals, 4-5 inches tops. If a landscaper did this yard at some point, he may have found some good stuff himself. Who knows? It' small and close, so I can go back at my leisure and search perpendicular.
