Had some time this weekend to check out a new section of park woods I’ve been researching. Site shows up in 1860 map through 1930’s aerial photos.

Was really shocked when the plate popped, it’s a bit crumbly and far from perfect, no Civil War battles In this part of PA. Definitely a bucket lister I never thought I would find at home.

A number of other interesting targets were found.

The Silver thimble has an interesting pattern and marking inside.

The “Coal Eng No…” piece is a bit of a mystery as is the penny size piece with center hole, looks like some kind of worn pattern on this.

The brass piece in the upper right of the photo of large brass targets looks familiar. The lion escutcheon plate was one of the first targets, definitely knew it wasn’t a hunted out site.

Great stuff. I found one of those railroad buttons a couple weeks ago.

Thats awesome haul there, found my eagle sword plate in a bottle dump at a 1900 house. Go figure (guess they threw out grandpappy's dusty old uniform into the burn barrel)

You certainly had fun!
Well done on getting the plate and the other recoveries.
Nice selection of bottles, see there's 3 piece mold even.
The thimble has a real beauty, the design is certainly hand stamped, as the pinwheels are turned a bit.

You did very, very well. Folks tend to forget the soldiers back then tended to take their stuff back home, then eventually toss it.
Thx Smokey! I think the CW soldiers that made it back to Pittsburgh were seen as hero’s and often wore their uniforms to various events. I’ve found quite a few CW buttons, and other CW items, but the US belt plate was fun to find.

Thx! You have a great eye. I don’t know that much about bottles, but looked up 3 piece mold and see that one bottle has the horizontal seam. I have only found 4 or 5 surface find cork top whiskey bottles in 7 years of detecting. The bank of this stream is loaded with intact old bottles. I left them all there since I did not have a way to haul them back to the car, I guess I’ll have to go back.
