Title says it all I have a friend who is a minelab dealer and hes offering me his 1 year old used ctx for 1000bucks. He is upgrading to another machine. He also gives me a good price on a new Etrac for the same money.

What would you guys get? I do wanna do some shallow water beach hunting in saltwater and the ctx is obviously the better choice since waterproof but then again I heard its got leaking problems sometimes.

A new Etrac is new so its also not a bad option? Any ideas? Leaning towards the ctx for versatility...

Currently have a Tesoro Vaquero so I dont know how much better the Etrac would really be considering that bit of improvement would be costing me 1k...

Ditto on owning both and choosing the CTX. Both are great but the waterproof tilts the scale!

If you are only considering ergonomics, then the CTX - I can swing it all day.

If you are only considering the money involved, then the CTX.

If you want waterproofing, then the CTX (simple o-ring upgrade to it).

If you're considering technology, then the CTX......

But, if warranty is your choice, then the Etrac...

If you want lots of rusty nails then the CTX. If you want to re-sell for more $ then CTX. if you want the best detector then the Etrac. This should fire up the CTX crew... but its true...

It will. I personally never dig rusty nails unless the target sounds funny and I want to be sure.

I would be interested on how that poster had this opinion, since the CTX has the best TID of any machine I have ever had, and I have owned 12 machines in the last 15 years.

If they had actual experience on the machine, or whether this was just an errant opinion based on rumor...

The vast majority of nails I dig are in the hole WITH a coin. It usually goes that I get a good, solid signal, pinpoint, then pull a plug and retrieve the coin. Then I run the pinpointer around inside of the hole and get another beep or 2 and dig them. Often they are nails, sometimes they are other coins. Very, very few times do I dig a solid signal and get ONLY a nail.

Masterjedi, I do not understand your position here.

It looked like you suggested that the CTX would result in a bag of rusty nails, then agreed with a post that suggested otherwise. ???

Did I misunderstand?
