Detector(s) used
Minelab Excal II, Whites Surfmaster Dual Field, Fisher CZ 6a,Teknetics G2,Deeptech Vista Gold, Tosoro Sand Shark, Minelab Sovereign GT, Sunspot sand scoop
I just bought a detector (used Excallibur II) from him. He said it had an Anderson shaft. Wrong. It was homemade. Many bad drill holes as whoever had it did not know how to drill straight. Like new condition. Wrong. The coil was beat to hell on the bottom. Two year warranty left with extended warranty. I will call and see. This guy could not even remember who he was selling to as the deal was being made. I have never complained or had reason to on a detector buy. But this was a deal that was anything but truethful on the sellers part. He lists his name as Petrie502 but is Vance metal detecting. Be cautious if you buy from him. The machine does seem to work ok in air testing, but I will try it in the water tomorrow. If I have to buy an Anderson shaft and a carry bag, then I could have bought new from Kellyco for the same price for a new machine. I am very disappointed in this deal. Only two pictures but his rating was good. Sent message to him but waiting for answer. Only bad deal I ever made on a detector even dealing with individuals. I much prefer to buy from the small dealers, but they have to be honest...Stuart

Just so you understand what I am saying. The shaft did not even have a cam lock on it. Scratched up terribly. Many bad drill holes in it. He said it was deffinetly an Anderson shaft . Only two pictures. I hope he sees this. If not maybe someone here who hS dealt with him before will notify him. This is not how good business is done. I try to always deal fairly with everyone and ask only to be treated the same. Most people here are the same as me. Just wish to let other members know my experience.

Sorry that happened to you! I've dealt with Bart from bigboyhobbies and have had nothing but great experiences buying from him and at a discount! Highly recommended!
Best of Luck

Vance metal detectors called today. For some reason he had been having problems with some calls not coming through. Mine were some of those. He has agreed to take the Excalliibur back and for $100 ship me a brand new machine. So that is better than fair. I can not complain about this arrangement. So my apologies for the above posts. Just technology failure at the wrong time.

I have dealt with Vance and had no problems or complaints. The coil I ordered from him was was back ordered from his distributor, but he found one from another dealer and still had it to me within his promised time frame. I met him in person and picked everything up.

That was a little over a month ago and he had just bought a new house and was preparing to move. Everybody makes mistakes, but the honest guy will admit his mistake and make it right. Sounds like Vance did this and took care of you!

I really don’t like, no despise is a better word for threads such as this.
I understand your being disappointed and have no problem with your warning other detectorists; however, calling or implying that a person is dishonest is going too far. Especially since you stated “that he could not even remember who he was selling to as the deal was being made.” I don’t know about you, but to me it looks like he got your deal mixed up with another deal.

I unlike the resolution of this problem even more. As most likely he will not be able to eat the cost of providing a new detector, but will have to raise his price(s) to future customers just to protect his name and reputation. This is bad for the hobby, as there are not that many small dealers. I know, I will certainly not consider it fair, if it costs me more to buy from him or another small dealer because of this.

Before posting my reply to your thread, I looked at replies from numerous individuals who had purchased from him and only found high reviews with no problems or complaints.

I was able to purchase a used CTX 3030 thanks to Vance Metal Detecting, Petrie 502 at a price I could finally afford, approximately one year ago. I have held up on commenting on this purchase, as it took me this long time to determine that this detector was working properly , since I had no Etrac experience, and am used to simpler knobs and switches type interface – I found changing to a computer interface, with all of the additional capabilities, more than challenging for beach detecting.

It was everything he said it was, I am a satisfied customer and am thankful that Petrie 502 kept his end of the bargain. He could have sold this detector numerous times, at a higher price before this transaction was completed, as I was having difficulty clearing my credit cards.
I really appreciate his efforts, as many small dealers will not sell and ship outside of the Continental United States, because of the additional effort required.

Would I buy from Vance Metal detecting again – most definitely yes.

He is a supporting vendor on this site with his own sub-forum. Vance's Metal Detectors

Why not post this there where he would actually read it? TN is a big place, it is doubtful that he reads every sub-forum each day.
