I scored this beauty today with the Garrett Ace Apex! Found out it’s very rare, being told only 1 of 8 known to exist!

Congrats!

Please don't take this the wrong way but have you eliminated the possibility of a later copy? Always important with rare buttons.

Down right awesome! I was hoping you would post it here. Congratulations and welcome.

Good one! Can you show us the source of the button info? We have found many N.C Sunburst Buttons and are interested in the info on this button.

That's got to be a banner find!

It’s listed in the N. C. civil war buttons book by c. Terry Teff.
The book I have was printed in 1998 and listed only one dug example and two non dug buttons known to exist at that time.

Very interesting button! The button is very close in lettering characteristics to the North Carolina pine tree Civil War button. The stipple dots around the lettering are very similar too. The NC pine tree button is a holy grail button for collectors and diggers. The center rays look more like a sunburst as you say. The star pattern looks similar to the pine tree button which has 5 stars on bottom.

That is a beautiful button, and its rarity only makes it more special. I wonder why so few were apparently made? Congrats!

Glad you joined the site to share this button. It is in great shape.
