Walking the old road from the Ghost Town

Well, we have hit this old ghost town really hard. Last week while down the old road about a mile at an old home site, I had found the seated dime in the road. Thought, maybe it was time to just start walking the old road that leads out of town towards the next terminus which is about 3 miles. Now mind you, we have driven down this road 100's of time; in the mud, snow, rain and of course now its hard as a rock.

Started out by driving down from the Ghost Town .5 miles. I would walk one side of the road and turnaround, and walk the other half going back. With the dogs as my helpers, off we went. Not expecting to much I think I have found something new to keep us busy for a bit. After the first half of the road nothing. Turned around and started back. Then it was non-stop. Over the next half mile I was able to grab 5 wheat's, 1900 V 5c, 1919-S Merc, 1908-S Barber 10c with a small hole and the 1909-S Barber 25c that was right in the tire groves of the road......of course she was beat up and to bad, she had some nice details. The ground is kinda rough but it payed off........Going back tomorrow!

Take care and be safe,

Congrats on the finds. I've walked many miles of two tracks and trails with various results. My most common find doing this has been fishing sinkers.

Your persistence has paid off nicely. Hopefully you are able to find more goodies. :icon_thumright:

You say the road has been packed down and hard as a rock? I have heard of some folks who carry a cordless drill with a paddle bit to break up the ground near a target so it makes digging a little easier. I know it's extra weight to carry around but it might just be something to consider.

Good looking out. Many times people drop coins getting in and out of their cars. Good place to check along road.
