this piece of wood was found in a hole inside a stone along with other rocks and no dirt. Can you explain that? This is the rock with hole.

Be my guess that a sapling grew through the hole, got girdled by it as it grew and died.

That wouldn't make the top of wood look like the opening of rock.

The inside is very different. If it was at the opening may but not inside. The hole was facing down with no dirt in it. It was dry with other stones. When it was picked up rocks fell out. The wood was in the rear of hole. There are other stones with the same shape. It's not natural.

On the top of a hill that we cut a road in . It's a Sandy clay road. Most all the stones are from that road. It's a 1/2mile long. More stones are being uncovered all the time

....Is the wood still SOFT ?
I would like someone to identify the rock.....is it stones concreted together or monolithic ? Staining ?
Better pics all around (clear) of the stone with scale possible ? Best lighting on a no pattern might help.
....Mark.

Yes ,the wood is hard, the rock has been hard to make out. It looks like it may have been made. It's like slag. I only showed it in one way. It's shaped like a human heart. But there is more to it. I have photograph it in many ways. It's a great piece that I've put away for now. Although I see it daily. The documents on it has been put in a box. That shape is common here. It's the wolf and a part of the Jesuit symbolism. I will find some pictures of it to post.

Hey Bob, look up pictures of fossilized sea sponge.

And the wood can't possibly be "Jesuit" because it's WOOD!!!!
-It would have rotted away long long ago.

Edit: Ok I guess it's technically possible though highly unlikely as a surface find
