A broken grey chert piece. Hard to get good pics but flaked longways almost an octagon... and sort of rounded off at top.

First 4 pics it is standing up....last one shows the break laying down

Looking at it some more it looks like it was made to a point and the point broke off. Like an animal head with missing nose...(for lack of a better way to say it)
You can see this also in the first pic- flaked in the direction of the "nose"

I found this pic (and others) online of something very similar called a blade core?

Could very well be a core, kind small though...can you see any ripples along the breaks from the conchoidal percussions?

Not really rippled like obsidian or chert would be...looking at it closer I don't think it's chert. It's not a material Ive ever found here. Weird. Almost looks like granite....

thanks for the look and replies.

Definitely odd looking .... Looks like it has long consistent flaking ... Almost looks like it was done with modern tools but don't know what it would have been

The two Jasper chunks below are both small blade cores. The red core was found 4 or 5 feet down during excavation of a neighbors foundation, along with half a jar full of red and tan Jasper flakes. The tan chunk was a creek find. The last pic is of the tools made from small cores similar to these. I'm no expert and might be wrong, but IMHO you have a blade core.

Wow... minus the color it is nearly the twin of your red core. Thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time to post that for me! :icon_thumright::icon_thumright::icon_thumright::icon_thumright:

Rub it and see it id feels grainy. Limestone comes in all shapes.

it's not grainy like limestone. ...seems like granite, has some small speckles in it....I don't know what it is...I'm no expert, obviously.
