Found this odd item on an early Michigan homestead (1880s - 1920s). Its bowl-shaped, does not appear to be bent and is missing just the one tab that folds over. Made of fairly thick brass (thick enough I cannot bend with my hands). Any thoughts?

I found an old B&W pic that was almost like a porcelain applique that was adhered to an oval brass base. It was kind of bowled as well but the pic was on the bulging side.
It's about the same size as your item but your item doesn't look to be symmetrical.

Interesting. I could imagine it attaching to a bowl of sorts
