🔎 UNIDENTIFIED What is it?

I found it about 10 inches deep next to an old square head nail.

Any ideas? It was VDI 23 on Vanquish 440.

if the washer is lead it was for roofing

Could be what they call a strake rivet and rove......used in boat building. The washer part is generally diamond shaped and usually all made of brass or copper..

The signal/VDI was similar to a Copper Penny, so that makes sense. It was next to a 4 inch rectangular nail with a square head.

VDI really means very little as thousands of items can ring up the same numbers. A pull tab could have the same VDI. as say a coin or a ring . Did you scratch the washer to see what it's made of?

Agreed. There were lots of false and broken signals here too. Pockets of shredded aluminum cans ranging from 6-12 inches deep. This nail and a dime were the only 2 good targets lol.

the washer was your good signal , the rest is iron , look up rose head nail.

A closer look at it shows that it dissent look like a washer, but rather it seems the old nail was driven through a solid disk. Could that be a coin?

I’ll find out when I clean it, 3 cent piece perhaps?
