What is it?

I found this today and have no idea what it might be. It looks to be brass, 4.25" OD 2" ID and 0.25" thick. Front and back are identical. Maybe a mold of some sort? The site where I found it was a settlement back as far as the 1840's and I've found a lot of logging equipment, 1800's sailing/fishing gear, and brass era car parts. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

It doesn't look like it was dug up .... what were the circumstances of the discovery location?

And when was the ''brass era car parts" after the bronze age?

It was definitely dug, just cleaned up nice. Here’s a photo from the field. It was probably about 8” down. There were a few small iron items in the same hole but nothing that looked like it fit with this piece. I’ve found hubcaps from wood spoke wheels nearby and license plates too as early as 1916. I’m wondering if the holes & grooves might be oil/grease passages. Engine part? Something off a horse drawn wagon 5th wheel assembly? Brass center from a ships wheel? This one really has me scratching my head.

It looks to me like a wet clutch/friction plate with those oil galleries machined into it. From what, I don't know.

Those router trenches don't look like fine machinist work, they vary.
