Found this on a historic property here in west Chester Ohio. I pretty sure it's brass. Maybe part of a horse bridle? The house on this property was known at "the twenty mile house" in 1806 because it was 20 miles to Dayton by horseback. The spot where I found this is where horse drawn wagons pulled up and stopped on the way to Dayton.

I think it is a Hitching Post Ring.

Could be part of a broken snaffle bit. It has a lot of wear on one side which could have been where the rein attached.

Not sure how to mark it “solved”? You mean just put in comments ?
I see they have changed how you mark it solved. Let me contact a moderator and get instructions. May be tomorrow before they get back to me but I will let you know.
I sincerely appreciate your follow up. Good job. And again a nice find.

If you found that at 20 mile stand, I lost that there. 😂

Based on it's size, my first thought was a drawer-pull. But this notch cast into the mount is something I've not seen before. :icon_scratch:

Rein guide that attached to wood.

The wear is evident that it has been worked in one direction.

So that would discount a hitching post ring as the horse would have pulled only in one direction.

The back has a knob which would sink (when tightened)into the wood preventing it from turning.
It was fastened by a bolt that ran through the wood into the back section.
