✅ SOLVED What is this button Lyre ? Initials? flat one piece ? 1800's?

Found metal detecting in Minnesota near 1890's ? home site. Is this a lyre? or initials? Would it be considered a flat button? Millitary? Age? Any information please It is the size of a US nickel.

I wish I could help you but I can't remember seeing a similar button before.

The emblem on your button is not a Lyre... it is an Old-English Script letter. Not sure which letter, might be a W. Or it might be two "superimposed" Old-English Script letters.

Appears very similar to marching band/musicians uniform buttons. I've seen quite a few two piece ones, although I've never seen a flat button example with the hat included. May be a custom order for a specific group? Below are some Waterbury Button Co ones:

Your button looks to have some age to it, due to how it's been cast.
I'm thinking your button may be European, possibly Norwegian or German in origin.

I wonder if it could be Swedish - maybe Oscar I? It reminds me of the symbolism on the Swedish coinage of Oscar II but it looks more like a I in the center of your button. Oscar I was king of Sweden 1844-1859.

Since you found it in Minnesota I thought the Swedish connection could be more plausible than some other locales.

Yes, it does appear to be the monogram for Oscar I

Bramblefind, I gotta say "Thank you very much, ma'am" for providing proof that the emblem is what I said... a letter, not a Lyre.

Apparently, King Oscar II's monogram letter is a "Old-Swedish Script" letter O. I continue to be amazed at the many versions of "antique" European lettering, with various countries having their own version of writing the Alphabet. (For example, some Confederate buttons use a German Text letter.)
