Is it really scratched up or is it possibly just dirty?

Amethyst is fairly soft, so could easily be surface scratches on the facets.

What appear to be diamonds on the sides, and possibly small rubies, also bodes well for amethyst.

Nice find! Looks like amethyst, but perhaps a trip to a gem shop or even a local jeweler can tell you for certain. The scratches lead me to believe it's glass, but it's beautiful nonetheless! Cheers!!

yonglee certainly it is tough to tell even if having it in hand and looking it with the eye, in real life, real time. That big honking crapper is glass, I can tell. I have internet assessment powers. Please do not be offended.
