I believe it's (most of) this... a trouser strap.

I wasn't aware of 'trousers' being a common usage term in the US. Thought it was pretty much only what we say instead of 'pants' over here.

At the mention of the phrase: "wearing the trousers", I'm always reminded of our former 'iron lady' prime minister Margaret Thatcher's husband Dennis at a press conference. He was cheekily asked: "so... who wears the trousers in your house?". Without hesitation he responded: "I do... and not only that, I wash and iron them too".

Does anyone have the etymology on the trouser "trout"? I'm told it only has one eye. :laughing7:

Start your research with "fish stories".

Fish story - An improbable, boastful tale. This expression alludes to the tendency to exaggerate the size... [ Early 1800s]
:tongue3:

I love all the gadgets and whatnot that were used back in the day for no other reason than keeping their outfits looking swank... really impressive!
