Years ago I had this head teller who would order me boxes of half dollars, but she told me she didn't want to see them again. I was taking them to a casino, but as most of you of know, casinos have done away with machines that take coins.
I have been doing boxes of dimes lately. I've been trying to figure out what to do with them. The other day I took a fanny pack full of them to Walmart and went to the self checkout. I was putting them in the coin slot one at a time and a cashier came over and lifted up the top part of the coin slot revealing a funnel like bottom. She showed me that I could pour the coins in. Also, the coin slot was too small to accept half dollars, but with that lifted up I'm wondering if it would now accept halves. I didn't have any halves with me to test it. Next time. Also, I bought coin wrappers from Dollar Tree and wrapped a bunch of dimes. I've been surprised at all of the stores that would take a roll of dimes as payment. Even Dollar Tree took them. I've heard that stores have problems running out of coins on weekends when banks are closed.

BTW, I was trying to write this and the lag is so bad I almost gave up. Is the lag due to all of the pop up ads or what? This website is almost unuseable.

I pick up at banks and credit unions that order for me, and return where I can deposit through coin counters.

When I open an account, I am open and honest as to my intentions.

Time for more coffee.

Take them to another branch of the same bank, or a different bank if you have multiple accounts

And I used to make a small mark on the roll (so I could id) after searching. That way if they transfer between branches you don’t accept that roll

Not sure why you're getting pop ups.
Never has happened for me at least.
Most mom & pop stores need change on a regular basis.

What I have done is set it up with the head teller that I bring the boxes back, all wrapped and boxed up and we exchange for new boxes that I haven't seen. I mark the rolls and the box, so they know I've already seen that box. That way, the bank doesn't incur any additional charges for ordering extra coin. The teller then gives my searched rolls out first as other customers (and businesses) request them. Occasionally, they will run out of boxes that I haven't seen, typically with nickels, so I have this set up at 3 branches and I just email the head teller if I need to go to one of the alternates. I've even been told that some of the businesses like my rolls because they are always counted right and there's no foreign (other than Canadian cents and nickels) in them.
I've been doing this since 1975, and at the same branches of my local bank for more than 10 years. They won't do halves, though as no business wants them. One branch will order halves for me as long as I don't bring them back. I only do that in the winter when I have extra time.

Times have changed. When I was a kid and went through rolls, the banks always insisted on name & address on each roll returned. Some kids had rubber stamps; some of us took new flat rolls to IA class and printed them.

They said they had a lot of substitutions (slugs, Canadian) but I never believed that... for pennies? Who'd bother; it wouldn't be worth the trouble. :dontknow:

We used to be required to write account # on the roll

Yup, that too--I forgot. 😔

They say memory is the first thing to go.
I forget the second.... 🤔

I maintain three bank accounts near where I live, and each bank has multiple branches. I pick up my order on Wednesday and distribute it elsewhere on Thursday-Tuesday . I only have one bank that won't take halves though. Unless they are a tiny branch, then they can send the halves back to Loomis or Garda in $500 or $1000 increments.

I have accounts with 3 different banks in my area who have multiple branches. One bank has 12 branches within a 20 minute drive of my home. That makes it real easy to "dump" coins.

I don’t get ads either.
Pm Treasure_Hunter, he will have the answer

That would be nice to have 12 branches within 20 minutes!

At work, I put 10 dimes in the soda vending machine and then pushed the refund button. To my surprise it gave me back 4 quarters. hmmmm. BTW, its been a few weeks and we haven't had one business refuse to accept a roll of dimes as partial payment for stuff.

I bought a box of nickels and a box of dimes. No silver in the box of dimes but I did find a proof S dime. In the nickel box I found 3 war nickels with the mint mark above the dome. I also found a lot of nickels dated 1940-1949 where the mint mark is not about the dome. I assume those are not silver?

Correct.
In the hopes of making them easy to sort out and withdraw after the war, the Mint struck all "war nickels" with a large mint mark appearing above Monticello. The mint mark P for Philadelphia was the first time that mint's mark had appeared on a US coin. The prewar composition and smaller mint mark (or no mint mark for Philadelphia) were resumed in 1946.

After church yesterday, I was talking to a friend and he said that he has taken rolls of coins to the customer service desk of a grocery store and they gave him bills for them. ding ding ding, So this morning I took a bank bag of rolled coins to a grocery store and the customer service rep gave me bills. I went to a different grocery store and they wanted them, but they asked that I write my name and phone number on each roll, which I did.

Many cash register retail outlets have to pay for rolled coins. Getting them your way saves them $
