Since my wife’s passing I haven’t got a chance to really metal detect that much I have my son is moving back in with the butt I’m still watching Metal Detecting videos so I don’t get out the game. That being said I had to move my whole collection because we put down wood floors and it gives me a chance on looking at everything I found again.
Question. I’ve been curious about this how many 8 Reales have you found? I’m asking since I have found three in the seven years I’ve been Metal Detecting and all of them were found on public property. Am I the luckiest guy in the world our have some of you who are the best at Metal Detecting found more?
And I’m super blessed since they were all in terrific condition every date is legible and very little wear and tear. The 1st was a 1829 Mexican 8 Reales (sidewalk strip) 2nd 1809 Ferdinand VII (Only Banner found on the outside of the fort across the bayou from a fort) 3rd Peruvian 1805 8 Reales (found on the outside of a old cemetery)

I have found 4 so far here in CT. 2 are counterfeits. The 2 are 1781 and the good ones 1780 and 1782.

sorry to hear about your wife. I found this one in a most unlikely place, Here's that story! L
This is a Spanish 8 Reale. It is amazing to hold one of these and see exactly how heavy they are compared to common coinage we use today. On one of my TH'ing vacations, I met a guy who had found 5 of these just in front of the dunes. We'll assume storms deposited them but that's anybody's guess. I searched and searched for one these on the island where he found them and came up empty handed. As my luck would have it, I met a very nice lady whose father was part of the crew that recovered the Atocha. She had lots of things on display but the Eight Reales caught my eyes. I said, 'I loved to have one of them!' She said, 'pick one out and give me whatever you think it's worth.' So I did.
