As the family rode through the countryside on the train, the young boy said to his mother, "If a big cow can have a small cow, and a big horse have a small horse, and a grown woman can have a baby, why can't a big train have a little train?"
Little Larry's mom looked quizzingly into her seven-year-old's eyes and said, "Very good question son. Why don't you ask the engineer?" The conductor, who had overheard the conversation, offered to escort young Larry to the Engine.
When Larry arrived, he was introduced to the man at the train's controls. A tall, muscular man, the engineer turned to Larry and said, "Ask me your question son." The engineer thought for a moment, took a long draw on his cigar, and putting his hand on the child's shoulder said, "Larry, go back and tell your mother that this is the Santa Fe Line, and we Always pull out on time."
