All, I’m posting this artifact for a boy who found it w/ his metal detector near the chimney of a demolished vacation cabin built in the first half of the 20th century. It is ferrous and the arms measure about 3/16” thick. It appears to have been attached at both ends and pivots in the middle. At the one end is a screw. The threads look like it’s a metal screw (but could be to mount to wood).

Before posting I looked at window arm adjusters and chimney flue levers – but didn’t find a close match.

He is eager to know the ID – so what do you think?

Looks like an arm for an early buggy/car top ? The round fitting on the end is a friction joint.
Thanks Tony! Never thought of anything like that - but will definitely look into it.

All, thanks for your IDs so far. The boy I posted this for is going to join me at a permission next week to pick up some more detecting tips. I'll discuss each of your IDs with him.

All, the boy was thankful to those of you who gave IDs. Will mark as "Solved".

Damn after several attempts can't seem to change the "Unidentified" to "Solved" next to the original title. There isn't a drop-down menu or edit on the original first post. Hmmm
