Wow! One of my best finds. 17-1800's MA State Seal printing block/plate (?)

I went out around noon today and hit a spot that I pulled a couple of Georgies out of lately. Like a fool I didn't dress for the weather and froze my butt off. I could barely concentrate I was so cold I just threw whatever I found in my backpack. I decided to head home and bundle up. I had about a mile walk so I hid out in the woods for about 15 minutes to warm up. I bundled up and went back out to another spot where I found the Buffalo (1916) and the V-Nickel (1906). When I started cleaning off my finds, what I thought was just a hunk o'junk turned out to be what I believe is Massachusetts State Seal Printing Plate/Block!!! Just awesome, at least to me. I can't find much about it except here: http://www.sec.state.ma.us/pre/presea/sealhis.htm

I lightly washed it and then put a small amount of olive oil on it. If anyone can find any info on it, that would be great.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to try to make a print in a bit and clean it up a bit. Maybe take some better photos.

I really think you should look into that a little more. That is history right there.

Is the image raised or engraved?

It appears to be on slate or a rock of some sort. Is it?

GREAT find. You get my banner vote for sure!
