I detect in Arizona. I have the stock coil, the 5 X 10 DD, the 6" 18.75 kHz DD and the 10.5 7.5 kHz DD coils. The areas that I detect in seem to have a lot of trash. I have not used the stock coil until today. I was hunting a school built in the 1950's. There are tons of pop tops and a lot of tin foil in the ground. The 18.75 kHz coil and the 10.5" DD seem much more sensitive to the small bits of trash. Trying the stock coil out, I found that it worked better because it was not as sensitive to the tin foil. I found several 50's wheat pennies, a few newer clad silver coins and a bunch of clad pennies. I'm thinking about getting the 6" concentric 7.5 kHz concentric coil as my next purchase. With so much trash, it may just be the best coil for the areas I hunt. The 10.5 DD is a killer on depth, but is hard to use where there is a lot of trash. Any comments or suggestions ?
The one thing about the soil in my area is that it really eats the clad coins up. A bounce of up to 4 points is normal with the clad coins unless they have not been in the ground long.

I traded my high frequency 6" coil for the 7.5 kHz. coil and I am glad I did. Allthough the hf coil had a little better separation the 7.5 does better where there are a lot of bottle caps and foil. Depending on your soil you might also pick up a little more depth.

Thanks, that was the answer I was looking for. I find few coins really deep in the soil where I hunt, it is usually compacted pretty well. I'll have to give the 6" concentric a try.

Good hunting, John K
