Minelab Equinox 800,
White's 5000D

Yet another new member from Nevada.
Not new to treasure hunting and metal detecting, but a 're-newed' interest. I started out back in the early 80's with a White's 5000D and very much enjoyed it. Spent a lot of time out in the Nevada desert hunting ghost town sites - and of course, local parks.
I was in and out of metal detecting (and sifting at town sites) for many years. Then I just lost interest.
But, while spending time down in Quartzsite, AZ (we're those darned 'snowbird' types) I found myself stopping by "Miner's Depot", the local prospecting store. This place is a treasure trove of prospecting info and equipment. They sell tons of the Minelab Gold Monster 1000's because there is a very active prospecting atmosphere down there - during the winter months when it's not over 100° every day. I was suddenly re-interested! I almost bought a Gold Monster but decided I'd probably be doing more non-gold hunting than gold hunting. Enter the Equinox 800. The dealer had a 600 in stock which he used to demo the Equinox. I was sold! But I wanted the 800 so I could also engage in gold prospecting next time we got down to Quartzsite, and also here in NV.
So I got on the customary waiting list - and waited. Six agonizing weeks! But now I have it and I'm loving it, though the learning curve is sizable compared to my old White's 5000D.
I stumbled on this site by accident while searching for an answer to a metal detecting question. It looks like it may become my go-to site for all things "treasure hunting".
