By 2064, experts say man will have established twelve colonies on the sun, ideal for family vacations.

Re: best coins for 2006
Nice scottish 20 pence. Never seen a double strike with the crown inverted. Very unusual.
I'm pretty sure the cut halfpenny is of the much rarer Richard I (1189-1199). Because to the right of the (Cross) is the start of the moneyer which is RE & none of Henry the III moneyers names started with RE. John & Richard both had moneyers named REINALD but only Richard has the right profile. Might be Reinald/Reinavd of shrewsbury - very rare mint. Needs more research but I sure its not Henry III.

Re: best coins for 2006
hi dug.
i like the 20 pence.i've never seen another double struck one, would that make it worth more or was it just part and parcel of the hammered process?
i found it in a local park would you believe.i near fell over when i picked it up,last thing i expected lol.
i thought when i was told that the cut half was henry111 that it doesn't seem right.
i hope you are right and they were wrong.
i've emailed it to an expert and i'll let you know what they say.
cheers,
shaun.

Yes the 20 pence would be worth more to the right collector.
I'm sure you will find out that the 1/2 penny is either John or Richard, my bets on Richard. I have found over 100 hammered but no Richard I (Very hard to get) Well done.

Re: best coins for 2006
hey dug,
got a reply from the coin expert.
you are now officially my new best mate 8)
here is the reply that i got.
Hi Shaun
Your short cross coin is a class 4a cut halfpenny of Richard I. The moneyer is Reinavd (sometimes spelled Reinald) and the mint is Canterbury.
Regards
thank you very much dug,
i am in you debt.
how rare would you say it was?
i've only found 5 hammered coins,the other 2 where edward 1st pennies.
love finding them though.
one of my mates has three farms on the outskirts of chester, says i can go on them when the crops come off.looks like i might find my first roman coin soon.

Re: best coins for 2006
Canterbury is not quite as rare for Richard I. Book price for a complete coin in fine condition is £50-60. So a cut-halfpenny which is not as collectable as the complete pennies would be about £20. Not alot I know but I have been metal detecting for 20 years & have not even found a Qrt of Richard I. He was a historical figure (Richard the lion heart) & 1 of the last kings/queens that I need. What I'm trying to say is that £££s value isn't everything & it would be worth more than £20 to me if I had found it, so get out there and get some more.
Chester is a great opportunity, I too am dreaming of harvest, so keep watching this space.
