I found a set of dog tags here in Ohio while MDing around an old WW1 training camp (Camp Sherman) and would like help identifying the member so I can return them to the family. I was hoping to run a search of his name, but it seems there were many George W. Whites who either enlisted or were drafted. You would think that running the service number would help, but I haven't found any sites that offer that. I'm really hoping somebody out there can help me with this! Here is the info: George W. White SN#1987099

Thanks for any help!

I believe the "number" is the persons serial number. I did find a match - it might be him?

Toledo, Illinois is a small community (1296 population) in the Township of Sumpter, Cumberland County. The Township of Sumpter's Public Library may be able to help you. Their number is 217-849-2072. You can ask for the Reference Desk AND information on who is the Historian of that country.
I recognize the OP's original post is 'dated', but who knows.........
