Ya know Max....The way that most Hurricanes go....if Earl had hit you straight on and not ended up being a "dud"....Oh yeah....the detecting would have been great.....the town of Virginia Beach would have been devastated the National guard would have been chasing looters off of the streets....No power....flooded streets.....Labor day weekend business ruined for all the locals that depend on it....and that would have been the mild side of it.....But oh yeah!!....the detecting woulda been great!!! :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft: Right now the surf is kicking here at the Jersey Shore....once it settles down and we can get a true lowtide again.....I'll get out there and see just what kind of "DUD" Earl really was....So stay tuned.....HH....Brian

Brian

i was not saying earl was a dud because it did not destroy the world as u would have it.

i only mean from a detecting standpoint it did little to improve what we had, we where hoping for some cuts and sand removal.......i do think sat or sun. will be good for us......i hope that is the case.

one guy posted all the nj beaches were or are closed right now.

Yeah...I think that once the wind switches and the surf calms down....we'll be able to see alot more and find the spots that are producing....

Earl put even MORE sand on our beaches here on the Treasure Coast. The high waves just rounded off the beach tops. Pulling the sand from up high and leaving it at mid-level. Never taking any sand off and leaving a big MUSH pile down low. :-\

If Florida took a direct hit at Sebastian and the 1715 fleet area. Visions of what the counties did after Hurricane Jeanne come reeling back. They closed the beaches for 6 months to rebuild the dunes and bring in several hundred tons of non-beach sand. I drove 2.5 hours to hunt the Colored Beach site and within 45 minutes of hunting, got escorted off the beach by a St. Lucie Deputy Sheriff who announced the beach was closed to the public. >:( I've not been back since. I drove north along SR A1A and every beach entrance was closed by the Indian River Sheriffs Office with No Trespassing signs on them. >:( You, TH'ers, who live over there, enjoy it and you can hunt my share because I won't come there ever again after a hurricane. :'(
I'll go hunt the Volusia County beaches because if they closed those beaches for 6 months, the outcry by the public would be heard all over the state of Florida. I took a lot of silver off those beaches after Hurricane Francis. :headbang:

Earl dumped more sand in North Florida too! The beach had an extra foot and a half of sand Sat!

FLauthor - How long were the TC beaches close after the hurricanes of 2004/2005?
