Keep in mind that I'm still a newbie at this (4 mos) and saw my beginning days at detecting at the peak of the summer. When I started this hobby I jumped in head first and haven't looked back. You all are some really great people and I'm happy to be associated with you. Plus in the 4 months I've found 37 rings and a bunch of interesting stuff!
That being said, I'm wondering what beach hunting here in Florida in the winter is gonna be like. I know in the Bay area temps get pretty chilly and I can't imagine too many people getting into the water to loose their belongings. What does everyone do? Is it a surf thing where the winter months bring big surf to churn up what's there?

Hey, we look for beach errosion, pray for storms (not hurricanes) and enjoy the nice weather while people up north are freezing....Get you a nice wetsuit, I hunt in the water with mine and have no problems with the temps with a nice wetsuit on....

A good storm with beach errosion will produce more goodies than the 4th of July....

You can check the tide tables but I just went when I was awake. You need to get the coil over it anyway and you can't do that watching TV. As Treasure Hunter said, get a good wet suit as it will keep you warm even it you are not going in the water. There is an awful lot to learn. Get a good long handle scoop as a good one will last a lifetime. I've used many and the Sunspot Stealth is one of the best.

Winter brings storms. Storms churn the sand. Not the last few years, but that's the order of play.

Winter brings less trash and less fresh drops. Time to research and try new hunting grounds.

If you are hunting Fl and don't own Drayton's books you are missing a key part of your education.

WHAT KIND OF TREASURE ARE WE HUNTING TODAY ?
Detector(s) used
MINELAB E TRAC, EXCAL2,QUATTRO,WHITE 6000 DI PRO SL,EAGLE SPECTRUM,SILVER UMAX ,BANDIDO UMAX VARIOUS VINTAGE
my experiance u will find almost no one in the water

the further north you are the worse it is of course

due to temperatures.

you will see many beach hikers ..lots of foreign folk.

and seniors of couse they dont lose much

a lot of your success will depend on how much ur

willing to pony up for lodging..

when the temps go up so do motel prices.
