Local buyers of precious metals are paying between 45 and 80% of spot price. The below is an example of how much you should expect to receive of one item, a 14K man’s wedding band weighing one half an ounce with spot gold at $1500.

Spot price X weight X purity =
1500 0.5 .585 $438.75

Your net from the above item:

98% from ARA = $429.97 less shipping and insurance

90% from USGB = $394.87

95% from Midwest = $416.81

45-80% from Local = $197.43 to $351.00

The troy ounce is used for precious metals weighting.

One troy ounce is equivalent to 1.09714 avoirdupois ounces. That means the troy ounce is heavier than the avoirdupois ounce that most scales read in.

Typical weight terms buyers use:

One troy ounce (ozt) is equal to 31.1034768 grams.

One troy ounce (ozt) is equal to 20 pennyweight (dwt).

There are only 12 troy ounces in a troy pound (rarely used).

I have helped other use both ARA and USGB...all sales went well, and those that I have helped selected by themself as to which one to use.
Everyone would use the one they used again.
I have not used Midwest and have not helped anyone in the past year and a half.
I understand new IRS regulations require anyone buying over $600 in scrap gold from any one person to issue them a W2 form for tax purposes. You might ask when you talk to the buyer. I would suggest you talk personally and not just email. You will have a much better fell that you are dealing with the correct business of your choice.
