This week at the Oregon coast I'm going to help a lady find 2 lost rings on the beach. She knows where they were lost. She claims high tide washed them from a rock that she had set them on. I know each area is going to be different, but is there a pattern or theory of where these rings might be? I'm going to search around the rocks in the area and look for black sands on other heavy mineralization. Is there a good theory I should follow? The rings have been missing for almost a month and I don't believe we have had any big storms. I don't have a waterproof so I must stay out of the water. Any tips would help. Thanks

Hope you find those Rings. Start off close and spread out. You may find them, if someone has not already. Good Luck!!

It should be a semi remote area. I doubt anyone has been there in a while. Plus it's Oregon .... Always raining:)

Just be careful. I've seen horror movies start off this way, secluded area along the beach. But on the up side, I've seen adult movies start off the same way. :laughing7:

Best of luck,
Bill

I believe there are a few honest real crime stories that start a remote beach.

Agreed that they will be very close to loss location..especially if gold. You might need to dig around the rocks? Also be wary about her memory...often times I've found a need to increase search area.

Definitely carry the v3i with smaller DD. It could be quite deep within a month.

If she can pinpoint the exact spot she laid the rings and where they washed off the rocks, I would first look as close to that spot as possible and right against the rocks. Rings and other items tend to migrate right against rocks, pillars and other large stationary objects.

Thanks for all the tips. I will be bring both my 10dd and 4x6dd. I may also bring a good shovel. I should arrive a few hours before low tide and be able to detect for a few hours. Worst fear is only finding 1 of the 2 rings.

Was able to spend about 4 hours searching. It wasn't clear from Google earth, but the area was covered in tide pool rocks. I can't see the rings going far. I ended up having a lot of confusion on where the lady said she was sitting when she lost the rings. The beach was very clean. I only found a handful of small bits of aluminum and 2 fishing weights.
