:hello:Hi again,

I love history of all eras, but WWI is my favorite , so I was pleased to retrieve this lead toy soldier from the "muddy flats" yesterday .

I soaked it overnight in olive oil, and then gently scrubbed the loose dirt off of it. Unfortunately, it looks like the feet are not intact . It must have been in the salt water a long, long time.

Tried to find one of the same on the net, but could not find one in the many collections that I researched.

Here's a couple of clearer, cleaner photos of this brave young WWI soldier in prayer...I think he may be laying on his roll up bed, but not sure.

Thanks for looking
Lorraine

That is an unique posture for a toy soldier! I hope someone can uncover the mystery of when and who made your lead doughboy! ???could it possibly be a type of miner??? :icon_scratch:

Love the Lead toys, special from the early years. Cool that it still has the paint on it.. I don't think any of the ones I've found have...

Thanks, that was a very nice find. Makes me wonder how that particular piece got lost in the sand and surf.

It's not like it's a toy...

Nice find! I also find WW1 fascinating. I've read quite a few books on it. I remember one dark night in Afghanistan as I was walking through a small trench and watching the snow flakes drift over the razor wire on top of it and thinking that this must have been what it was like in WW1. I have one of the lead soldiers but I had to buy mine at a flea market. Hope to find one someday.

Nice find. I've seen similar lead soldiers in that position that had a machine gun either attached or placed in front of the figure.
