Your most memorable day metal detecting of 2017? Can you single one out? I really couldn't as far as recoveries goes, however, I do recall the day and event when I finally came to understand just how to use the threshold to it's fullest potential. So for me that was my best day of 2017 as it lead to many other very productive days this year. So what was your most memorable day metal detecting of 2017?

Not something I dug out of the earth, but my best find was introducing a friend to detecting back in the summer. Looks like I have found a hunt bud- he's got the bug now.

Hunting an old spot and I turned around and seen I had been found. This year seemed I was on the most want to know where your hunting or can I come out with you sometime question. I often wonder how much posting has cost me, something everyone should consider if they find a honey hole. At least hold off until you got it cleaned out or your pouch full.

Someone told me that they spotted my vehicle at one location this summer, that location more then 50 miles from my home, and yep, they were correct but I didn't admit it. :laughing7:

By the way, I have a Jolly Roger for next year....:icon_thumleft:

My most memorable day was when I helped my buddy's son find his wife's lost wedding ring. She had been picking up tree branches from the entire back yard and was placing them into a fire pit. The first day, I searched the entire back yard to no avail and ran out of day light. The next day, I suggested we remove all the branches from the fire pit (luckliy they hadn't started a fire yet) and my buddy spotted the ring in the ash pile! The smiles are priceless!

My most memorable single day of 2017 was April 19th. I got invited to hunt with Treblehunter (that's him watching us hunt) in NJ, and I found this Capped Bust half dime...it's the best coin I ever found. I'll never forget it!

I'll let you know when it happens lol. I had some good ones out in the water this year. I had two days where I found two gold rings each day and that was cool but nothing really memorable yet.

I think the more we go the easier it is for most everything to just sort of blend together due to that routine.

Ever since irma ive found the good stuff every hunt. Ive actually found at least 1 artifact from the galleon wrecks every time ive hunted since irma culminating with my banner 1732 8 reale cob. I finally laid off the spanish treasure spots and went to a modern swim hole and found my heaviest gold ring of the year. The last couple months have been great when ive had enough time off from hurricane clean up to hunt. photo-684.JPG

Maybe I picked these because they are fresh in my memory. All in all 2017 was kind to me. Started in the bahamas with some great finds and finishing strong here at home in the keys. Hopefully I can catch a strong nor'easter and get up to vero for a 1715 piece to finish out this season. I had a good mid summer run on gold rings. No where near obn's numbers but remember folks I spend a lot of time hunting for that spanish treasure too. Also spent a lot of time with the bronze cannon corp searching for the galleon "el angel bueno" . This has been the highlight of my year. Its been an honor to hunt galleons with the pros and learn 2 separate magnetometers at the same time. Working with full permits from the state of florida and hunting for a virgin treasure galleon has been the highlight of my treasure career. Ive met and worked with some of the biggest names in treasure this year, and its been a rush. Its like getting to the NFL and realizing you are about to work with the guys you idealized when you were a kid. I still have to pinch myself sometimes !! Also met some great new friends from TN one of wich I hunt with regularly now !! I love 2017 !! I guess if I had to pick one day it would be friday October 13 the day I found my latest cob. This cob was lost friday july 13 1733 and found friday oct 13 2017. Wierd with the fri 13th thing. But thats not all it was also my wifes birthday. Wieeeeeerd !!!!

I miss the possibilities of the east coast of Florida, just so much history there one never knows what might be found in the scoop next? Up here, in my neck of the woods, mid 1800's is pushing it in most places and those are pretty darn sparse. I might get back down there this winter?

I found these 2 class rings a 1943 and 1944 this summer on back to back hunts right off .I felt they were special as they are both from the town I was born and grew up in.The owners of these rings were attending their 10th high school class reunion when I was born. Still living in this town I thought it would be easy to find who owned these rings, Unfortanaly the High School burned down in 1945 and was never rebuilt.
I am finding out records are very scarce. I did find the name of the owner of the 1944 ring but unfortntaly it was in a program for the class of 1944 50th class reunions deciest list. From this program I did find out that there were 16 students that graduated that year, of the 16 students only 6 were boys and these are both boys rings. I would have no idea how many of them would have gotten a class ring , But I feel that I have found something really rare, not only is it Rare to find 1 but I found 2 I am still researching the ingraved initials in the 1943 along with the local Historical Society.

I can't choose between 2 hunts. I dug a kids plastic treasure chest with 5 silvers and many wheats along with a handful of other clad, the newest being 1967 and the hunt about a month ago that one find checked off 2 bucket list items. The Seated Quarter Love Token. Both were very memorable hunts from 2017.
