Well we got the whole crew together to dig our site on Redington Beach Sat. night. We got down 4 1/2 feet before we were stopped by incoming water. Even though we had pumps and a coffer dam we couldn't get down deeper. One of our crew reached down with his hand and brought up what looks like a silver coin.

Here you can see our pumps and the plywood coffer dam.

This is the deepest we got:

There were six of us working the hole. Our metal detectors gave a big hit just below our reach. Oh well, maybe next time.

My buddy took the "coin." I'm trying to get a picture of it from him. When I get it I will post it.

Got a hit just below your reach... he reached down by hand and came up with a wide silver coin . You had a shovel, why not scoop it out? This thread seems odd....

Every time we took a scoop with the shovel it would immediately fill in.

Our satellite guy gave us this site. We ran over it with the GPR. That showed something is there. We then checked it with the Pulse Star. That gave us a strong signal and it said non-ferrous.

Can't wait to see that coin....get a pic Salvor. If you could show a coin and prove it came from that hole....that would go along way towards the credibility of your sat guy. As far as I know I've never seen a single coin related to any of these sat tech digs. Good luck buddy....I just got some great treasure coins from a deep spot.....I waited many years for the heavy equipment from road crews to finally dig in my spot...they dug 8 feet down to cap rock. In the process they dug up some treasure coins and other artifacts !!

Bart here are a couple of pics of the "coin" we found. It registers a hit on our metal detectors but we have yet to check it with a magnet to see if it's ferrous or non-ferrous.. I don't have the "coin."

Why not just keep letting the plywood box drop down as you dig like a well curb? I cant imagine truly believing I was inches from a treasure and then quitting.

I'm not sure what this thread is actually about but I smell a rat of some kind.

Wonder if that is a spoil island Bart. If so, probably modern junk beneath the sand.

.....You had a shovel, why not scoop it out? .....

I'm guessing you've never dug in beach sand below the water line. It doesn't matter how fast you "bail", that water seeps into the hole and brings sand with it. The deeper the hole the faster the water flows. Think quicksand and you can understand their frustration.

Every time we took a scoop with the shovel it would immediately fill in.

That's why you need the second and third rows to your coffer dam. Each row 12"-24" longer but a little narrower and slightly tapered so it will fit into the first section and be easier to remove. Sort of like those Russian nested dolls). You can drive each layer into the sand which helps keep the sand at bay (and be sure to have holes placed in the plywood to attach a rope to pull each piece out of the ground when it comes time to leave).

No "Rat" in this Thread, That I am sure.

I agree and wish them success. It takes a lot of work digging in sand on the beach.
