Noooo Dixie.....haven't you ever seen the spiral method before?......once i hit a heavy target such as a nickel, quarter, gold ring etc. I do a spiral out from that spot to see if there are anymore targets in the area or to see if there is a coin line in the vicinity....I have seen too many folks dig a target and keep walking just to pass by a nice patch of coins and alot of times jewelry as well......try it some time after a storm in the wetsand....it works like it did for me this morning....HH.....Brian

Very methodical pattern,with good overlap.I agree,coins,jewelery,etc.
can gather in groups.Wave action,or whatever.Like the coin lines
you mentioned.Always amazes me how it does that .Good luck on
future hunts.Joe

Brian, How did you clean the black silver from the ring ?

I have a few black rings like that and want to clean them up.
Brian: thanks for the help you gave my nephew inlaw on his swing style.
You had him extend his coil shaft. Seems like I told him that about 100 times.

Wow! That spiral hunting pattern is a forehead slapper of an idea. Thanks! I'm looking forward to using it the next time I hit the sands.

To answer your question about cleaning the silver....I used the "aluminum foil electolysis" method....simply by wetting the obect to be cleaned and then wrapping it in a wetted square of aluminum foil (shiny side out). you will hear it starting to sizzle (that's the electrolysis) then while it is wrapped soak it in a bowl of a little white vinegar (just enough to cover it). when it stops "sizzling" remove it from the foil and rub it between your fingers with a baking soda paste until it shines up....that usually does the trick....hope this helps....Brian

Nice ring surfdigger!
Thanks for sharing the tip on cleaning the ring also.
Does this method only work on silver or can it be used on gold and can it be used on rings with stones?
Thanks again.

I have only used this method on heavily oxdized silver........gold usually doesn't suffer from the same extreme oxdation. I have used this on many silver rings with stones also....it works great!!....HH....Brian
