I'm new to this fourm and was wondering if someone could help me with metal detcting on Atlantic City NJ beaches. We will be going there next week and I would love to spend some time on the beaches metal detecting.
Is there any law against metal detecting on these beaches?
Also, can anyone tell me if it's ok to use a Whites Spextrum XLT on the beach with out damaging it and what about putting it in or around the sea water?
I'm really dumb about detecting around salt water because I don't live near a beach to know a lot about it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Oledigger

You can get the coil and shaft wet but keep the control box and display dry.

Disassemble the lower rod each day to keep the sand build up from binding up your adjustable shaft. They can bind up so tight you may have to destroy it to get it apart.

If you can, cover the control box and display with some clear plastic of some kind. This is to protect it from the ever present salt spray that is always along the surf line. You can see evidence of this by looking down the beach line. See that misty haze? That is very fine salt spray kicked up by the surf.

Wipe everything down each day with clear water to remove any residual salt.

A very small amount of silicone grease or even petroleum jelly on the cable connector threads will also minimize corrosion.

Good luck and happy hunting.

I havn't heard of any laws, on Atlantic City Beaches,
Iv seen stories on People Searching them.
So I'd asume it's OK.
as long as you avoid the concentrations of People on the beach.
(don't detect along side that Blond with the Gold BellyButton Ring ;)
You should be OK.

HAVE FUN :)

I was in Atlantic City a few years ago, and detected all up and down the jersey coast including Atlantic City with no problems ..had to pay to get on the beach in some areas, but no problem. Tons of people too...hit the beach hard around the casinos, especially the Trump Casino, found almost $40 in clad, no good rings tho.,.too many people swimming to get in the water and along the water line, but you will have fun. hit the high water line and good luck.

I detected at Avalon beach last week and no problem. The policeman who walked passed me did not bat an eye.
I only found clad, but it was fun.

I wish you all the best of luck on the beaches..but I must tell you..I read an article last week regarding a story about beach sand being replenished. They said all the old stuff would probably be lost forever since they added tons of new sand to the Atlantic City beaches. I sure hope thats not the case.
