The article states that Hiram Herbert Jr became involved in searching for the Beale treasure in 1923, becoming a lifelong obsession.
February 1934, Martha Rivers Adams of the LYNCHBURG NEWS interviewed James Beverly Ward's daughter, Adeline Ward McVeigh, granddaughter Mrs Gorham B Walker, and grandson concerning the BEALE PAPERS, with Adams stating in the article, "She (Adeline Ward McVeigh)always believed that the story was authentic".
Wasn't also in the 1930's that Clayton Hart contacted the Friedman's concerning the Beale codes after contacting Riverbank Laboratories codebreaker Col George Fabyan in 1924?
The Beale treasure story was a localized Virginia tale until George Hart got Pauline Innis involved.

Pauline Innis ARGOSY article and GOLD IN THE BLUE RIDGE gave the BEALE PAPERS treasure story national attention, and the hunt was on with other searchers and authors who continue to keep the tale as a viable treasure quest.

James Beverly Ward, agent and publisher, and according to Lt Fawcett, the "author" of the BEALE PAPERS, was married to Harriet Otey, who was born and raised 4 miles from Bufords.
Clayton Hart was married to Issac Otey's daughter.
George Hart took Pauline Innis to the home of Mr. Otey, to see an iron box containing a torn slip of numbers covered paper.
While not mentioned in the job print pamphlet, an Otey connection is quite apparent.
