1st GW Inagural Button!!!! (1789) - video included!
Hi my name's John Dwyer and I am 15 years old. I have been metal detecting for about 2 1/2 years now and in May 2010 I updraded to the Spectra V3i.
Now for the exciting story of the find of a lifetime. It was a regular weekend, clear sky about 65 degrees and a gut feeling I was going to find something. I located a small patch of woods near a house that George Washington stayed at during the Revolutionary War. The even more crazy part was that I had a dream the night before of me finding a GW button. The day started of slow, I only found a 1953 wheatie and a pouch full of trash. Then next to a big rock, I got a 51 -52 signal on my spectra v3i. I pinpointed it a 4 inches, it was a promising sign. Then in the corner of the hole I saw something round. I first thought it was a large cent!! So I picked and tryed to rub some dirt off, no luck. Then a saw a part of a shank. I knew it was a colonial button. I find these all over the woods behind my house so I disreagraded it and put it in my pouch.
About 2 hours in to the hunt, I took a break and sat down. I pulled out the button, wondering if it had a design. Rubbed it on my left knee, I started to see a figure. I didnt know what it was. Then put in under a ray of sun and a saw an eagle with a shield!! I started screaming , OH MY GOSH I JUST FOUND A GW BUTTON!!!!
I went home and properly cleaned it and found out it had 63 border marks. In Alberts book WI12c with R2 rarity. There are only 51- 75 know to exist!!! Since the button has no shank it is worth $1000 to $1200!!
I made a video of me finding it:

I love hunting old relic sites . . . as I feel
the imprint of past lives often linger there.
I view relic sites as windows to the past, sacred places
in a way, yet at the same time attesting to the reality
that the past is still very much a part of our today!
