Nice flowing Hair 86,416 minted in 1795. Not a banner. But well worth $500.00 +
1794 would have been the banner!
Congrats on your nice find!!

UH....Better guess again. This coin would grade EF20-30.(or even 35), Then look at the Rarity on Variety, which is a 5. Better do some :read2: The more I look at it, it may even be higher than VF35.

Re: 1795 Half Dime! This is what it's all about!!!

Neil,

You are certainly right when you say this is what it's all about! Those of us who have dug numerous large cents and colonial coppers, and maybe a handful of Capped Bust or Seated silvers are always looking for Flowing Hair or Draped Bust American silver. Today you found what I and many others of us hope to find. A 1795 Flowing Hair Half Dime! Incredible! I'm really happy for you. I think now you have to change your avatar. Also, congrats on making the banner. You know, today I dug a toasted Draped Bust Large cent and a King George II Copper, and a Massachusetts Militia button (which I'll post in a little while), but each time I put the copper in my pocket, I was saying to myself, why couldn't one of them be a pre-1800 American silver coin. Well, you don't have to say that anymore. Today you got one!

Without having that coin in hand I can tell that it should be au-53 or higher.... you have to take into consideration rarity and age in these old coins and have a somewhat of a sliding scale. Just look at the hair above the forehead, at least ef-40 just from that. Than you have the lack of distracting scratches from overall appearance.

This is a real winner with only slight distracting with the blotchy toning. What a find... :hello2:

Wow - look at the condition of that coin! And to get a rare variety to boot! :icon_thumright: :headbang: :notworthy: :hello2: That's three of those coins that I can remember being posted here.... and that one looks to be the best of them! Congrats on a day and coin you will never forget!
