What an amazing day on several counts; first the finds, then the lack of more . I do have a question, as an XLT user: what kind of signal did you get on the Eagle? At least I know what the Barber is like. Congratulations.

Re: Two firsts for me ~ $10 GOLD COIN & BARBER HALF! WOOHOO!!!!
Thanks everyone for all the replies to my posting!
Yes, I'm still on such a high from finding that gold coin. I've been metal detecting for 13 years now ~ I've found lots of cool stuff, but this gold coin is by far the best numismatic piece I've ever found. Last month I found a 1868-S Seated Liberty Half dime ~ back in 1999 I found a 1921-D Mercury dime ~ several Indian head cents, silver dimes, silver quarters, and the occasional semi-key date Wheat Cent.
There's still lots of other coins I haven't found yet ~ I still need a Barber Quarter, Standing Liberty Quarter, Large Cent, Half Cent, Flying Eagle cent, Two Cent, both types of Three Cent, 20c, etc.
It's sure gonna be hard to top this 1868 $10 gold piece ~ but I'm gonna try hard!
Thanks again!
Neil

I actually had several close targets when I was initially going over this area ~ I think the gold coin was coming in at about +50 on my XLT. I started pinpointing ~ the gold coin came out first, then a big nail, then the Barber Half, and finally another big nail. Then I let my son take his detector over it ~ he didn't find anything else.

Oddcoins, I'll trade one of my Barber quarters, an SLQ, large cent and my only 2 center for the Eagle . You can't beat 4 for 1 anywhere!

Shazam!
A good day of playing in the dirt. I figure no one in this area ever owned a gold coin so none were ever dropped.
America was founded by tough hell-raisers. Rugged citizens who evaded taxes, spoke strongly against tyranny, grew tobacco, brewed beer, distilled spirits, and smuggled weapons. And it will be saved by those same types of citizens.

You have achieved the metal detectorist's dream! Doubtful you will ever top that unless you find a really big cache somewhere. Congratulations and I can't express how thrilled I am for you. EXCELLENT!! M nty
