A friend of mine found this bottle in South Jersey along the Mullica river in an area where British ships were supposed to have docked during the rev. war. Any info would be appreciated. They found this years ago and packed away and just found it again.

These are known among collectors as "Persian" flasks. When they are flattened, they are known as "Persian saddle flasks." The string of glass (usually spiral) around the neck may be a stylized snake to ward off poisons, but they are functional in providing a grip on the bottle and in catching drips.

Age is uncertain because these bottle have been made for a long time, and are probably still being made. Your friend should take the flask to a bottle show to get some in-hand opinions on age.
