    1951 Coke Bottle

    Hi,
My daughter recently purchased a Coca Cola bottle, hobble skirt, 6 oz, raised letter, light green in color. It is stamped on the bottom "Bishop, CA". Trademark registered, Bottle Pat. D-105529. My research so far says that it was the 8th evolution of this bottle. I have yet to run across a bottle stamped from Bishop, however. Any ideas on the value for this bottle. It is very clean, no scratches. I would love to help her along with this-she's 13!
    Thank You!

    Re: 1951 Coke Bottle

    Deb ~

    Coca Cola bottles are cool!

I'm not sure who told you or exactly what they meant by "8th generation," but the D-105529 bottles are what I would call a 3rd generation bottle, and issued between 1938 and 1951. Not counting the painted label bottles, there are five basic variations of the non-painted, embossed bottles. As follows ...

    1. November 16, 1915 issued 1917 thru 1928
    2. December 25, 1923 issued 1928 thru 1938
    3. Pat-D 105529 issued 1938 thru 1951
    4. 6 oz. U.S. Patent Office - Min Contents 6 Fl oz. issued 1951 thru 1958
    5. 6 1/2 oz. U.S. Patent Office, Contents 6 1/2 oz. issued 1958 thru 1965

As for your Bishop, Ca. bottle in mint condition ... it is considered somewhat common and abundant, but may still be a little hard to find, and, in my opinion, valued at approximately $10 or $15. If I were looking for one, I would likely not pay more than that. However, there are lots of small-town California bottles that I would pay more for. Barstow is one example, considered rare in any condition, which I would probably pay $50+ for in mint condition. So it really depend a lot on supply ~ demand ~ condition.

    I hope this helps.

Happy Trails to both you and your family.

    P.S.

Here's a link to a 6 1/2 oz. (1958-1965) Barstow, Ca. bottle I was watching on eBay recently. There were no bids and I could have won it for a total of $23.45. But I am really holding out for an earlier variation, and definitely one in better condition. I prefer the bottles I buy to be in near-mint condition. I bet I could ask the seller to re-list it and get it for a steal. But I'm just not that interested in a scratched-up bottle, no matter how rare it might be.

Thanks to both of you for your responses. The 8th generation I was referring to came from a website that described this bottle as the "8th revolution" or as I took it, change in design-for this bottle. I showed my daughter your responses and she was thrilled. I think I have a little antique hunter on my hands.
