It says on the bottom, JGW&. But maybe its actually W& JG? Its a very crude mark. Also on the rim of the base if you look close enough you can see a run in the glass. This pc is black when you look at it but when my camera flashed you can see hints of green

Hey ba,

It does look British. I'm always glad to see those serifs. It's an oldie for sure. I'd dig that spot out...

"G.W. & J. ……………..Unknown. Initials (arranged in a circular formation) seen on the base of blackglass (very dark olive green) ale or brandy bottles of British origin. The “G” may appear to be a “C”. ALso, the order of the letters could also be construed as “W. & J. G.” David Whitten

Whenever I see the "GW," I always think glass works...

Thanks for the help surf, and thanks for the best wishes Garebel. I felt it had to be old from the looks of it. This was found at the old town i was referring to a couple weeks ago. I looked the whole place over this weekend and have decided to concentrate my search on a small couple of ravines on the west side of the old town. These small ravines would have been directly behind any buildings that would have been located on the west side of the north-south road that ran through the town. They are also the nearest location that would be a likely place for a dumpsite(easily accessible and very close to every building in town). I hope this shard might be hint of things to come!
