This collection was owned by a man I call The GURU because he has been the biggest influence on me and my collection of Paterson NJ bottles. I have hoped to own just a few pieces from it ever since seeing it in person for the first time a few years ago, and in those years I have found about 20-25 of my own pieces. He had talked about possibly selling the jugs if he got the right price, to be honest I never really thought he was too serious about that.

Well someone talked him into selling some of the pieces and that guy went to his home two sundays ago to check things out, the buyer has a partner who was the driving force behind the deal and that guy told me he was most likely buying the group, not knowing that I had first shot at any jugs I wanted. So this past sunday I headed over to the Guru's house and I inquired about his best price on the whole group, a few minutes of counteroffers led to a deal and the best collection of Paterson NJ stoneware went from one passionate collector to another. I am now the proud owner of 106 new pieces of stoneware, I'll be moving them from his home to mine over the next few months because the stairs to the attic where they are located is like something you would find on a submarine, it still feels like a dream... The 3 pieces with the red X are the only ones not coming home with me

Hey Jim,

I know you've gotta still be basking in the glow of this epic transaction. I'm looking forward to a stone by stone tour of the collection once they make their way to your house.

It looks to me like the Brawer, Kanter & Munzer in the top row were made by the same potter, or Cobaltist.

I think the bottles are my favorite from this sneak preview.

What is the weight of a 5 gallon jug approximately?

Major thank yous for showing us.

When's the groundbreaking for the new gallery wing?

I think a 5 gallon is about 30-40lbs. Surf, I'll weigh one up when I get them home... I know a guy who actually knows who made the NJ jugs and I'll have a breakdown by potter and painter when I document them all.

Congrats! Those are some amazing bottles you have there. I've only managed a few broken pieces here and there. I wouldn't care if I dug that or not. What an amazing collection. HH
